There are a lot of things I do for my health every day – exercise, watch what I eat, the works – but in the last few months I’ve added one simple daily habit: every morning when I wake up, I drink a cup of warm water with lemon. There are a ton of benefits of drinking lemon water, and it’s the easiest healthy thing I do each day. Here are a few of the benefits:
Lemons are acidic but in the body they act alkaline, so they help balance your body’s pH.
Lemon juice helps flush out toxins from the body.
Lemons are full of vitamin C, protecting your immune system (buh bye, colds!).
Lemons are great for your digestion. Trust me on this one.
In addition to all the other pluses, this drink tastes great! Just squeeze the juice of one-half or one lemon (depending on size) into some warm water. Think pretty warm but not boiling. Drink your lemon water at least ten minutes before you eat anything. You can also enjoy a glass of cold lemon water in the afternoon as a refreshing alternative to lemonade.
Now that I’ve been doing this for a few months, I get a little anxious when my lemon supply runs low. It’s weird but true. Not coincidentally, my grandmother has been drinking lemon water every day for years and years and she looks and feels fantastic. I recently got my parents on the lemon water train and they love it, too!
What about you? Do you drink lemon water? Give it a whirl.
