It’s no secret that I love reading and writing. While some people collect antiques and others collect art, I collect books. They’re kind of my jam, you know? Over the years the reality of moving with and storing books has crept in (those things take up space and weigh a ton!), and I’ve made the transition over to Kindle and Oyster for a lot of my newer reads. That being said, my pre-Kindle collection is one of my favorite things.
When you pore though home decorating and design sites, you often see bookshelf styling tips. There are some really beautiful ways to display special objects on bookshelves, like picture frames and vases, but truth be told, I don’t have room on my bookshelves for anything other than books.
My solution to achieving a beautiful bookshelf is to treat the books like art. For years I have color-coded my books, and I love the way the individual books turn into a cohesive library. Ian makes fun of me because for this move I may or may not have packed my books by color. Really, though, can you blame me?
These shelves are all fiction, with non-fiction like travel and business books in our office. I’ve always been able to find just what I’m looking for, and the books bring a nice shot of color into our living room.

That’s the first time I’ve seen a collection of books organized by color–but I LOVE it! So clever! I love my Kindle too, but there’s nothing like a shelf of actual books. =) Great titles too!
